Substantive debate has all but disappeared from Council. Even the most divisive issues pass unanimously.
Whichever side of an issue you’re on, we can acknowledge the best solutions involve different perspectives and are arrived at in a spirit of compromise.

Growth and change are inevitable. But we need to meet people where they're at and give them a voice in what happens.
New development should honor existing context, create place, and protect the environment.
We must address displacement head on and consider market intervention for real affordability outcomes.

My journey into local politics began when I came across a wooded hillside across from Argo Nature Area clear cut for luxury $1.4M condos. The area was on the City’s list for protection, yet was cleared without City review.
However you feel about development, protecting these places should be a non-negotiable.
We can grow while preserving our mature tree canopy, nature areas and public green space.

We have one of the highest tax bases in the state. The current administration treats that as something to maximize. But I haven’t heard any discussion of our tax burden in any conversation about housing affordability.
Seniors on fixed incomes can't downsize without increased burden because of what our taxes do to monthly costs. Tax revenue is something to steward responsibly, not something to chase as an end in itself.

In my line of work, I define a problem, perform root cause analysis and evaluate how a proposed solution addresses those underlying opportunities.
I establish a baseline and track progress with quantifiable metrics. What gets measured, gets done.
I’ll bring that same problem-first mindset to council.
5th Ward council hopeful lacks trust in Ann Arbor’s housing density plan

ANN ARBOR, MI — Greg Monroe said his journey into local politics in Ann Arbor began when he came across what he describes as environmental devastation along Longshore Drive while on a run one evening last spring.
He was dismayed to see a wooded hillside across from the Argo Nature Area clearcut and a sign advertising luxury condos coming, priced from roughly $1 million to $1.4 million.
He argues there should be more protections from development for the city’s natural features. And he’s now running for City Council in the 5th Ward on a platform skeptical of the city’s newly adopted land-use plan for higher-density development.
